Dave Thompson

(Thom) Warranty Manager

HI, I'm Dave Thompson, but I go by "THOM". I joined the Herbies team in February. I'm still getting my feet wet, but I can already tell this is a special place. Random facts about me: I have a terrific wife of 22 years and 5 awesome children ages 12-19. My life has been very blessed. I have travelled all over this great country and I'm thrilled to be rooted here in beautiful, northern Colorado. I love to play Disc Golf. I sing. I have a CDL. My first car was a 1967 Vega - the one with the aluminum block engine. I hate mice. My favorite joke is about the two antenna's that fell in love - "the wedding wasn't much, but the reception was out of this world". I pray. I lowered my cholesterol. I drive a 1996 Ford F-150. I love chocolate covered almonds. I snort when I laugh. I like to help people. I sneeze very loud...no, I mean REALLY loud. I eat Chipotle Burrito Bowls. I believe that a preposition is not a good word to end a sentence with. Stop by Herbies anytime. The coffee is hot and the folks are friendly.

The People I Work With

I just want to throw some flowers to the people I work with. We have such a great crew at Herbies. As a group we come to work TO WORK. We love to help our customers. We love to connect with our customers in a “friendly community” sort of way. One of our objectives is to be a business that is “GOOD” for Greeley and Weld County.
Last night our owner, Lee Yoder, was honored as the Humanitarian of the Year by the Weld County United Way. He looked uncomfortable in the spotlight. He’d rather just do his good deed quietly I think.
Anyway, it just reminded me of what a cool team I work with.

Congratulations Lee and Colleen!

Go Team Herbies.

Long Time – No Write

Wow!! It’s been a while since I posted. That is sad, because there is so much great stuff (that’s a technical term) going on.

We continue to see the HUGE need in this community for a place like Herbies. It is currently so difficult to get financing for anything (homes, vehicles etc) that folks who are rebuilding their credit rating need a place that is willing to give them a loan on the basis of something other than a credit score. At Herbies, we base our credit approvals on Job Time and Residence Time, NOT CREDIT SCORE.

Together, we and our wonderful customers enter into a partnership. We provide safe, reliable transportation at 9.9% interest. We also include a 2 year 24,000 mile warranty. We also report to all three major Credit reporting agencies when our customers make their payments on time.
It is easy to see that this partnership meets the transportation needs of our customers while it give Herbies the opportunity to operate a profitable business which employs many area residents. It is a WIN / WIN arrangement.

I’ll end with a terrific prayer that was written by the Greeley City Manager recently. It is a blessing on our wonderful community.

Jesus your word tells us that we do not have because we do not ask and we do not ask with the correct motives. Just as you were knocking on the door of the Laodicean Church, we hear you knocking on Greeley’s door and, as her City Manager, I want to lead the way and open this door to you because we know your heart is to bless Greeley so that Greeley may be a blessing and that your Kingdom would be advanced through her. Your enemy and ours belittles us daily effectively binding our ability to reflect your Glory. You are Yahweh Sa-bay -oth, the Lord of Hosts, therefore we ask you to gather your heavenly hosts to battle these demonic strongholds on our behalf this evening as we worship you. We request this that Greeley may reflect your Glory and be known as a community for its generosity and kindness, for unity rather than division, for its ability to not only meet the needs of the poor but empower them to bring wholeness to others, for its ability to not only help prisoners find freedom but equipping them to be bearers of the good news, as a place where those who were once blind are now able to see and experience the beauty of Your Kingdom and as a community anointed with a unified vision to not only release the oppressed but raise them up to thrive as your image bearers.

Blessings!!

Win for the Client / Win for Herbies – Ideal Situation

It occurred to me recently that used car lots come and go with great regularity.
That is one more reason I love the Herbies model. It is a sincere approach to do business in a way that allows the customer to get the needed value of transportation and improved credit, while enabling Herbies to remain strong, employing qualified members of the community, and in the end, making Northern Colorado a better place to live.
It is obvious to me that Greeley needs Herbies and Herbies needs Greeley.
What a terrific synergy.

Car Give Away

It was a ton of fun for all of us here to call the winner of our “Easter Debt Forgiveness Event”. Imagine the surprise of getting a phone call telling you that your car loan debt has been forgiven. It was VERY COOL!!!

Really Good Odds

This is a really cool video. Enjoy.

Three days left for our “Debt Forgiveness Event” Odds look really good on this one. If we have a terrific week, we may sell 40 cars. That would mean a 1 in 40 chance of having the loan forgiven. Those are really good odds.

The Culture of Herbies

I’ve been on board at Herbies since mid February. It is always interesting to be the “new guy”, and to learn the culture of an organization. I’ll share a little inside info – This is a great place to work. I sense a growing, genuine desire for excellence at Herbies Auto Sales in Greeley.

The leadership is very aware that life at it’s fullest, is not about making money at all cost. Rather, they have charted a course toward a meaningful work experience that includes elevating each other and our community. There is always an eye toward the realization that we will all give an account one day for our actions. I perceive that Herbies owners and Managers want to have “good answers” on that day. I hear this phrase over and over: “If it is good for Herbies and good for the community, then we want to do it.” This is great for our customers.

The older I get, the more I realize that I can cast a vote for the kind of businesses I want in my community by doing business with the ones who bring integrity and positive energy. Sure, my few dollars aren’t much, but many of us together can make a huge impact.

Stop by any time and see what I mean.
